Dr. Mary Jo Hanigan, MD
Dr. Mary Jo Hanigan, MN, MD, PC serves as Meridian Mental Health’s owner & chief medical officer. She is a Board-Certified Psychiatrist with 25 years of experience treating complicated mood disorders, including refractory depression & bipolar disorder, as well as anxiety disorders, including generalized anxiety, panic disorder & PTSD.
Dr. Hanigan graduated from Creighton University, The University of Kansas College of Health Sciences, & the University of Nebraska Medical Center – UNMC. She completed her psychiatric residency with the Creighton-Nebraska Universities Health Foundation, where she was appointed chief resident. After residency, she completed a medical fellowship in Consult & Liaison Psychiatry from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Prior to medical training, Dr. Hanigan was a certified pediatric oncology nurse specialist & hospice nurse. She served as staff psychiatrist at Douglas County Community Mental Health Center & Methodist Hospital prior to opening her own private practice.
Dr. Hanigan & her husband have lived In Omaha for the past 25 years & have raised six children, the youngest of whom just graduated high school. While very proud of her children, she also takes great joy in her three young granddaughters.

- Current National Membership Chair of the Clinical TMS Society
- Member of Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, Alpha Sigma Nu, Metro Omaha Medical Society, Nebraska Medical Society, & American Association of Women Psychiatrists
- Previous Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and Clerkship Director for Psychiatry for nearly 10 years. She is adjunct faculty for the UNMC College of Allied Health.
- Recipient of the Roeske Award of Excellence in Education from the American Psychiatric Association
